In a few short weeks, our little baby will be turning 3 years old. Up until this point, Ryan and I have held off on the potty training process because 1) we weren’t in our own place, 2) Jordan wasn’t showing any indication that she was ready or interested, and 3) we were terrified of the endeavor. Now that we’re in our own house and plan to be here all weekend, we decided that now was the time to kick off the training.  Jordan still has shown us no interest at all, but we figured since she’s almost three (and resistant to any new thing as a general rule), ready or not, it is potty time.

All week long we have been coaching Jordan about her big weekend, so today when she woke up I nodded smugly when she said, “Today potty day, Mommy?”  In my head I was feeling comfortable thinking that maybe this wouldn’t be so hard after all.  Maybe there is some merit in waiting until now to start this less-than-fun process.

Then we walked down the stairs.

After wailing all the way to our bathroom (the Training Room), I convinced Jordan to sit on the potty for a few minutes.  She pouted for a full five minutes before we agreed that she didn’t have to pee just yet.  Her overnight diaper was a bit wet, and after the gnashing of teeth that had preceded our first potty sit-down, I figured that her morning pit stop had already occurred in her Pampers. Pulled up the big girl underpants, washed hands, marched to breakfast.

I decided to heed my pediatrician’s advice and set a timer so we could head back to the potty every thirty minutes to try our luck.  Once the timer was set, I presented Jordan with her oatmeal and raspberries and proceeded to clean up in the kitchen. After a few minutes I asked Jordan if she needed to potty.

“No, Mommy.  Maybe later.”

That seemed pretty satisfactory to me, but just for curiosity’s sake, I decided to check her underwear.

Really?!  Already???

I peeked at the timer.  9 whole minutes had passed.  I guess that morning pit stop was a bit later than I thought.

Marched back to the Training Room, sat on the potty, changed in to dry underwear, washed hands.  Jordan and I then had a conversation about her wet pants, and she seemed to get the whole concept as to why she felt damper than she had before.  “If you feel like your pee pee is coming, tell Mommy, and we’ll sit on the potty,” I advised, and she seemed pretty comfortable with that.

Back to breakfast and reset the timer.  After a few minutes, Jordan announced she was done and wanted to go outside.  Great, I thought, go enjoy the sunshine while I clean up the dishes.  Perfect.

Within two minutes I hear, “Mommy!!  Come here!”

I opened the back door. “I go pee pee!!”

Notice the puddle, the footprints, and the happy smile. You’ve got to hand it to the kid.  She was pretty proud of herself, so I definitely count this as a victory.  And the timer actually made it to TEN minutes this go-around. 🙂

We’re all set up in the Training Room, so I should be able to document this fairly well.  She’s being a good sport!

It’s Here!!

This morning when I opened the door to let the dog out, I was surprised by a gust of something pleasant.  What was that? Could it be??

I stepped out in all of my rumpled pajama glory to investigate further. The air was clean.  The grass was crisp.  The breeze was cool

It’s fall!!

I’ve since added to my to-do list today:

1. Go outside.  With a book.  And some coffee.

2. Find a pumpkin patch.

3.  See if we can walk there.

Case Closed!

This past Thursday Ryan and I painlessly closed on our new home. Our experience at the title company was so ridiculously pleasant, and as we finished writing our names (about 100 times or so, but who’s counting? :)), we were told that this was one of the easiest house closings that this agent had ever had.  We couldn’t agree more!

We’re excited to show off some pictures and have our dear ones over to bless our new place, but for now this will have to do. Our poor seller is scheduled for a c-section this week (can you imagine?!  9 months pregnant and trying to move??!!), so they are renting the house back from us until the end of the month.  In the meantime, let the shopping begin! Alright, that’s a little less than accurate, but “let the shopping continue!” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. In any case, the fun is definitely here!!

A Quick One!

Jordan and I are watching Dora right now (her newest fascination), and to be ready for the show Jordan has gathered a bag, keys, and her binoculars (or “her knockers”, as she calls them).  I asked her if she was going to go exploring with Dora, and after looking at me with a bewildered face she said, “I not go WITH Dora.  She not look with me.  She’s on TV.”  I think if she knew the word, she would have added, “Duhhh.” Silly girl…

So I got a friend request on Goodreads today from a stranger who has apparently been following my book reviews online.  I checked in to her profile to see if maybe she was somebody that I forgot I knew, but no…  Besides her name and where she lives, I discovered the following about her:

Love The Night Favorite time EVER
Only 2 Trust worthy friends and losing one as we speak
I Love doing witchcraft and my religion is Wiccan

Favorite Things:

Colors -Black And Blood Red

Movie -Satan’s School For Girls

I have not yet responded to her request for fear of having a spell cast upon me.  So what’s new with everyone else??

All’s quiet in the Kirksey house, so I thought I’d write a brief moving update.

Originally our plan had been to close on our house in Friendswood on Wednesday and then do our final move Saturday the 1st.  After a small change in plans regarding the offer for our next hopeful house, we are now closing Monday which means our last Heritage Park day was moved to Thursday, April 29.  Since we didn’t think any of our loved ones would appreciate taking a day off of work to help us move (though it is SO fun, right??), we’ve altered our final move for Sunday, April 24.  In other words, tomorrow! 🙂

Ryan and I have been slowly packing and moving items to storage for several weeks now, so to change the move-out to this weekend has really not been that big of a deal.  We finished the kitchen yesterday (the biggest job, besides furniture), so now all we have left are random items to be packed in those dreaded “Miscellaneous” boxes.  Many, many thanks to Ryan’s Mom for offering (and providing!) both child care and extra packing hands this week.  We are very sad that she had to miss her London trip due to all of that volcanic ash, but we so appreciate her time and generosity!

As for Part 2 of our moving (also known as “Where are you moving to?”), the short answer is that we are not quite sure yet.  We do have a house that we like, but since it is bank-owned, we have to wait until we close on Heritage Park before the bank will look at our offer.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed on that house, but since we’re not sure that this one will work out we are doing our best to keep our options open and not spend too much time mentally unpacking and decorating this pretty house that we’d like to buy.  Hopefully we’ll know more in a week or two, but in the meantime we are preparing for an indefinite stay at Ryan’s gracious parents’ house.

I’ll keep everyone posted about our next place, but for now our “change of address” is a P.O. Box in Clear Lake. 🙂  We appreciate your prayers during these next few weeks as we continue to live in limbo.  Though we haven’t really felt too much of the odd discomfort yet (thankfully!!), we know we are still pretty early in this transition, and we’re mindful of how all of this change could affect and IS affecting Jordan.  We know she’ll be thrilled at what’s next, though:  moving in with Gigi!!
